Helping your child understand their brain, build real skills, and finally feel like they're not doing everything wrong.

Evera Psychotherapy offers neurodivergence-affirming ADHD therapy for children and kids in Guelph and online across Ontario.

You're exhausted from pretending you're not wired differently

Your child is not the problem. They are a child with a different nervous system in a world that wasn't designed for them.

You’ve watched them struggle. The morning routines that fall apart every single day. The homework battles that stretch into the evening and leave everyone exhausted and upset. The teacher notes that come home, the lost belongings, the friendships that are harder than they should be. The meltdowns that seem to come from nowhere. The look on their face when they’ve tried their absolute hardest and it still wasn’t enough.

And underneath all of that, a child who is bright, curious, creative, and deeply frustrated. Who knows they are capable of more than they’re showing. Who is starting, maybe, to believe the story that they are lazy, bad, or broken.

They are none of those things.

ADHD is a neurological difference, not a discipline problem. It affects how the brain regulates attention, impulse, emotion, and executive function. Children with ADHD are not trying harder and failing. They are trying as hard as their nervous system currently allows and not getting the right kind of support to make the trying work.

Our approach starts from a place of genuine respect for your child’s brain and what it’s capable of.

Signs your child might benefit from ADHD therapy
ADHD in children doesn’t always look like hyperactivity or obvious disruption. It can be subtle, internal, and easy to mistake for attitude, laziness, or immaturity. You might notice:

If any of this sounds familiar, ADHD therapy can help your child understand their brain, build genuine skills, and feel less alone in how they experience the world.

What Is ADHD Therapy For Kids?

What Is ADHD Therapy For Kids?

ADHD therapy for children is a collaborative, child-centered process that helps young people understand how their brain works, develop practical skills for the areas where ADHD creates friction, and process the emotional weight that often accumulates when a child has been struggling without adequate support.

It is not behavior modification. It is not a reward chart or a punishment system. It is a therapeutic relationship in which your child is genuinely seen, where their experience is taken seriously, and where they are helped to build self-understanding and genuine capacity rather than simply compliance.

Parents are partners in ADHD therapy, not observers.

What ADHD Therapy For Kids Addresses

At Evera Psychotherapy, we support children navigating the full range of what ADHD creates, including:
Children with ADHD often experience emotions more intensely and have more difficulty returning to baseline after being upset. The meltdowns, the frustration, the sensitivity to perceived failure or criticism. We help children understand what is happening in their nervous system during these moments and build real, age-appropriate tools for managing emotional intensity without suppression.
Getting started, staying on task, managing time, remembering things, transitioning between activities, following multi-step instructions. We help children build strategies for these challenges that fit how their brain actually works, not strategies borrowed from neurotypical frameworks that have already failed them.
By the time many children reach therapy, they have accumulated a story about themselves that is deeply unkind. They have been in trouble, they have disappointed people, they have watched other kids do things effortlessly that cost them enormous effort. We work directly with the shame and help children build a more accurate, more compassionate understanding of who they are and what their brain is capable of.

Task initiation, time blindness, working memory, planning and prioritizing, following through on commitments that matter to you. We build practical strategies that are genuinely adapted to how your brain works, not borrowed from neurotypical productivity frameworks that were never designed with your nervous system in mind.

Anxiety and ADHD co-occur frequently in children, often because years of unexpected failures, social difficulties, and feeling out of step have conditioned the nervous system toward vigilance and dread. We address both together, understanding how they interact rather than treating them as separate problems.
The social landscape is genuinely harder for many children with ADHD. Reading cues, waiting their turn, managing impulsivity in groups, understanding why something landed wrong. We help children develop social awareness and interpersonal skills in a way that is affirming of who they are rather than asking them to perform neurotypicality.
The distress, avoidance, and erosion of confidence that builds when school consistently feels like a place where you fall short. We help children rebuild a more neutral or positive relationship with learning environments and address the anxiety and shame that school stress has created.
Saying things before thinking, acting before considering consequences, difficulty waiting. These are neurological challenges, not character flaws, and we help children understand that while also building age-appropriate tools for pausing and reflecting in the moments that matter most.
Whatever your child is navigating, they will be met here with warmth, patience, and genuine respect.

Something in you is whispering that it's time for a change.

Common Questions About ADHD Therapy For Kids

Most children who are initially resistant become genuinely engaged once they experience that sessions are not something being done to them. We never force disclosure or push children faster than they are ready.
Very involved. Parent involvement is central to ADHD therapy for children, not an optional add-on. You will receive regular updates, have dedicated time for parent check-ins, and be given concrete strategies to support your child between sessions. You will always know what we are working on and why.
Yes, in age-appropriate terms. Children who are brought to therapy without understanding why are often more resistant and less able to engage. We can help you think through how to explain therapy to your child in a way that is honest, normalizing, and appropriate for their age and developmental level.

Yes, significantly. The executive function skills, emotional regulation tools, and self-understanding that children build in therapy translate directly to the school environment. With your permission, Nadia can also liaise with your child’s school to support consistency across home and school environments.
It depends on the child, the severity of the challenges, and what you’re working toward. Some children make meaningful progress in a shorter course of therapy and then benefit from check-ins as needed. Others benefit from longer-term support, particularly if anxiety, shame, or social difficulties are significant alongside the ADHD. We will be honest with you about what to expect and revisit goals regularly throughout the process.
Therapy and medication are complementary, not competing. Medication addresses the neurological dimensions of ADHD and can make therapy more accessible for children whose symptoms are significantly impairing. Therapy addresses the emotional, behavioral, and relational dimensions that medication doesn’t touch. We don’t prescribe medication, but we work collaboratively with your child’s pediatrician or family doctor if medication is part of their support plan.
