Christian Counselling in Guelph, ON

A space where your faith is welcomed, respected, and woven into the work.

Evera Psychotherapy offers faith-sensitive psychotherapy for Christians and people of faith in Guelph & online across Ontario.

You're exhausted from pretending you're not wired differently

You want support that doesn't ask you to choose between your mental health and your faith.

You’ve thought about therapy before. Maybe you’ve even tried it. But something held you back — a worry that a therapist wouldn’t understand why your faith matters, would quietly dismiss it, or would offer a framework for healing that sits uncomfortably against your values and your worldview.

You’re not asking for a therapist who agrees with everything you believe. You’re asking for one who takes your faith seriously — who understands that for you, spirituality isn’t separate from your mental health. It’s woven through all of it. Your sense of identity. Your relationships. How you make meaning of suffering. What you’re working toward and why. That’s not too much to ask. And at Evera Psychotherapy, it’s something we’re genuinely committed to offering.

Our therapists won’t pathologize your faith, steer you away from your values, or treat your beliefs as something to work around.

What Is Faith-Based Therapy?

Faith-sensitive therapy is an approach that takes a client’s spiritual and religious life seriously as a meaningful part of who they are and how they heal. It doesn’t impose a particular religious framework, and it doesn’t ignore or minimize faith either. It holds spiritual identity with respect, curiosity, and genuine care.

At Evera Psychotherapy, our therapists are trained in evidence-based clinical approaches — CBT, EMDR, IFS, ACT, somatic practices — and we bring those tools to every client, including clients of faith. We don’t replace clinical work with scripture or prayer. What we do is create a space where your faith is a welcome and respected part of the conversation — where your beliefs, your values, your community, and your relationship with God can be explored openly and without judgment, as part of understanding the whole of your experience.

Because your inner strength is already there. We’re just here to help you find it again.

Approaches We Use

We draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, always adapted to the values, context, and lived experience of each client — including clients of faith:

CBT helps you identify and shift the thought patterns driving anxiety, guilt, shame, or low mood. For clients of faith, we adapt this lens carefully — distinguishing between cognitive distortions and genuinely held spiritual convictions, and never treating your beliefs as the problem.

IFS is particularly resonant for many Christian clients — its framework of compassion, parts, and a core Self that is inherently worthy maps in meaningful ways onto concepts of grace, inner wholeness, and the complexity of the human heart. We bring this lens gently, without imposing the parallel.

For clients dealing with trauma — including religious trauma, abuse, or deeply painful experiences tied to faith — EMDR helps the brain process and release what’s been held, without requiring you to narrate every detail or theologically resolve what happened before healing can begin.

ACT’s emphasis on values-clarification and committed action connects naturally with a faith-oriented life. We use it to help clients of faith identify what they truly value — spiritually and personally — and build a life that reflects those values more fully and honestly.

We adapt mindfulness and body-based practices in ways that feel comfortable and consistent with your faith. For clients who prefer grounding techniques rooted in breathwork and body awareness over traditionally Eastern-associated practices, we tailor our approach accordingly.

No matter what your story looks like, you’ll be met here with compassion, curiosity, and honesty.

Something in you is whispering that it's time for a change.

We’re here to help you take the first step.

Common Questions About Christian Counselling

Absolutely. Your faith is part of who you are, and that means it’s a welcome part of your sessions. If something you read, prayed, or experienced in your spiritual life is relevant to what you’re working through, bring it. We’ll engage with it honestly and respectfully.

It’s not wrong — it’s an incredibly common feeling among Christians who seek therapy, and it’s worth bringing into the room rather than using as a reason to stay out of it. Faith and therapy aren’t in competition. Many deeply faithful people find that therapy helps them access healing, self-understanding, and transformation that deepens rather than diminishes their spiritual life. Reaching out for professional support isn’t a failure of faith. It’s a courageous act of stewardship for the life you’ve been given.

If sharing a faith background is important to you, that’s a meaningful and completely reasonable preference. We offer a free 15 minute consultation where we can answer your questions and advise on the availability of our Christian therapists.

No. Full stop. Your beliefs are yours. Our job is to support your mental health and wellbeing — not to evaluate, challenge, or redirect your theology. We may gently explore how certain beliefs are showing up in your emotional life if that feels relevant and useful, but always with your permission and always in service of your growth — never in service of a particular ideological agenda.
